Saint Simons Island is a popular vacation spot on the coast of Southeast Georgia. The island is known for its salt marshes and beaches. The town is as peaceful as it gets from grabbing a drink overlooking the marsh, eating freshly caught seafood at local restaurants, or a sunset boat ride on the water. I've been lucky enough to call this island my home for 21 years so let me share with you how to enjoy it.
When Is Best To Visit
Summer is very much peak season on St. Simons. Especially the holiday weekends, like Memorial Day weekend, 4th of July, and even until Labor Day weekend. You should expect crowded beaches, high prices on lodging, and long wait times at popular restaurants. The island stays hot in temperature for longer than you would think so don't feel as if you have to go during midsummer! Early-mid fall is still a great time to visit as the weather is still amazing and the island is less crowded.
Down south we love our football. The island gets a lot of traffic on a weekend we call Georgia-Flordia Weekend. Every year, the Friday before the game, hundreds of students party on the beach wearing Halloween costumes. They call it "Frat Beach." Then, Saturday the fans head down to Jacksonville, Florida to attend the game. This is a huge game as Florida is Georgia's #1 rival. If this isn't your scene, I would not visit the island this weekend of every year. If you love the Georgia Bulldogs, stop by the island on your way down!
Must Try Restaurants
Southern Soul BBQ- As seen on Food Network, probably the best BBQ you'll ever try. Southern Soul is a must when visiting.
Georgia Sea Grill- Sea to table fine dining. Located perfectly in the village.
The Half Shell- Known for their steamed oysters. I recommend the shrimp and grits!

The Yellow Deli- Located over the bridge in downtown Brunswick. Easily the best deli sandwiches. Many of the vegetables grown on their own local farm.
Bennie's Red Barn- Fine dining, a cozy red barn that specializes in steaks and amazing southern sides.
Golden Isles Olive Oil- Great atmosphere, live music, huge selection of wines, and more. Be sure to check out the gift shop, you can't leave without their olive oil.
Fiddlers- Amazing marsh views and great vibes. The whole flounder on the menu is a top pick.

Things to do
Visit the St. Simons Lighthouse.
The 19th century lighthouse located in the heart of the village has amazing views of the Atlantic. Be sure to check out the museum!
Walk the village and fishing pier.
The village is full of amazing small business such as apparel shops, restaurants, and sweet shops. Definitely grab ice cream from the popular St. Simons Sweets Shop!
Relax on East beach.
Grab your beach chairs, umbrellas, and cooler for a great day on the beach. No matter what time of day, the beach is delightful. I recommend watching the sunrise as it rises right on the beach. I often bring my dog and he has a blast in the water.

Shrimp Boat Excursion on the Lady Jane.
Explore the coastal waters on a Shrimp Boat named The Lady Jane. While the boat trolleys through the water, a large net captures many types of marine life. You will learn about the marine life from the Naturalist on board as well as hold them. Beverages are allowed on board, and you can even eat fresh low country boil. Be sure to hold the sharks, they won't bite!

Coastal Backwater PowerBoat Tour (drive your own!)
This unique experience allows you to drive your own compact powerboats through the waters. You don't need to know how to drive a boat, these are simple! A staff member will guide you as well as inform you on some eco-history. This tour is early in the morning, the water and the marsh is just beautiful. You won't regret this tour.

Places to Stay
King and Prince Beach & Golf Resort- Historic resort located right on the beach and close to the village. Amazing ocean views and a tasty restaurant inside.
Hodnett Cooper Rentals- If you're traveling with a big group, this is the place for you. A long street of beautiful 2-3 story beach style homes with pool and beach access.
The Inn at Sea Island- Want to stay away from the crowd on your own secluded island? Sea island is a private island with many amenities including private beaches, restaurants at The Cloister, and an award winning spa.
Whether you are visiting with friends, your significant other, or your entire family, you will not be disappointed in choosing Saint Simons Island as your destination. This cozy small beach town will make you consider moving, trust me!
